About My Family

Hi. My name is Anthony Van Kirk, and I live in Louisville, Ky. I was born and raised in a small town called Amberg, Wis. My mom and dad were both raised on small farms and live in Wisconsin. I have two younger sisters who also live in Wisconsin. I earned my undergrad degree at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, I moved to Louisville to pursue theological education. I felt God calling me to the ministry and had a desire to serve others. I'm currently a student at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and will be graduating with a Master of Divinity in Discipleship and Family Ministry. My favorite Bible verse is Hebrews 12:1-2.

About My Ministry

I am currently a member at Ninth and O and serve the senior adult Bible fellowship group. I participate in the church's apprenticeship program. Some of my past experiences have included teaching a children's Sunday School class and counseling teens at camp. Currently, I am a chaplain candidate for the Army and assist in the preaching duties. I participate with all of the training with the soldiers. After I graduate from seminary, I would love to serve at a church as an associate pastor and gain the pastoral skills and experience to be an active duty chaplain.

SBC Chaplaincy

Right now I serve as a chaplain candidate and have finished Chaplain's Basic Officer Leadership Course. After I graduate seminary, I will assess as a reserve Army chaplain. After ordination and gaining the ministerial experience, I believe that God is calling me to be an active duty chaplain.

For boldness to share the gospel as I interact with people. For receptive hearts among the people in my community. For people to come to saving faith in Jesus Christ. For the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers into the field to join missionaries and chaplains. For the completion of my studies at Southern Seminary. For God to place me in the right church and ministry position.

Commit to long-term prayer support. Chaplains serve as an extension of the local church in places that other church members and staff sometimes cannot go. Explore the opportunities to extend the reach of your church by becoming a chaplain. Support and pray for chaplains and their families.
Many missionaries build a team to join their ministry in prayer, participation, and provision. These friends, family and churches support missionaries beyond the tithes and offerings given within the church plant. Visit for NAMB's policy on providing for church plants.
