About My Family

I was born and raised in Wichita, Kan. I came to know Christ in my teen years through the influence of my parents and the youth ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church. I surrenderd to God's call to full-time ministry in my early 20s. I have been married to the love of my life, Cheryl, for 40 years as of June 2017. We met in college through a mutual friend—the guy she was dating. We adopted two children from Korea. Josh is now married as is Rebecca. We have three grandchildren with the fourth one due in April 2018.

About My Church Plant

My ministry path is differnt from most. I have been in ministry for more than 38 years and have served all of those at Immanuel Baptist in Wichita, Kan. My ministry began as a college intern serving under my youth pastor. From that beginning I have served as children's pastor, campus pastor, associate pastor, executive pastor, evangelism and pastoral care and missions and ministry pastor.
All of this has equipped me to begin this new phase of ministry of planting a church in the community in which we have lived in for more than 25 years. This will be a replant ministry.

NAMB Church Planting

Demonstrated Christian character is essential for missionaries and chaplains to gain credibility and build community. A missionary is a person who, in response to God's call and gifting, leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in obedience to the Great Commission. The North American Mission Board supports missionaries serving across the United States, Canada and their territories. Churches are the missionary incubators and sending centers for missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries serve in a variety of settings and face tremendous challenges. But the rewards are tremendous and life-changing. Missionaries have the privilege to represent their church and their Father in sharing the gospel as the primary focus of their activity. Many missionaries build a team to join their ministry in prayer, participation, and provision. These friends, family and churches support missionaries beyond the tithes and offerings given within the church plant. Visit for NAMB's policy on providing for church plants.
