About My Family

Rebecca and I met in college while at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and have been married since November 2013. We adopted our son, Barrett, in December 2016 and consider him one of the greatest blessings in their lives. Adoption is near and dear to our hearts, and we plan to continue to adopt in the future.

Both Rebecca and I have felt a call to ministry since college and loved serving and leading the college ministry at Fielder Church in Arlington before pursuing the call to plant a church. I enjoy exhorting and encouraging disciples of Jesus to discover who they were born to be and equipping the church to share the unmatched love and hope of Jesus with those who are jaded and wounded. Rebecca shares the same passion for the kingdom of God in Seattle and enjoys discipling young women and investing heavily in family.

About My Church Plant

Discovery Church engages and partners with Seattleā€™s local business core to bring stability to our local neighborhoods and to see them flourish through the gospel. Through relationships and partnerships with local businesses, we invest in local Seattle initiatives that put an end to relational and material poverty. More specifically, we desire to serve the marginalized in our community (at-risk children, the homeless, seniors) by investing in elementary schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, senior centers and homeless shelters.

We believe the gospel is the key to bearing the weight of this initiative by reconciling relationships primarily with God, then with others, which allows neighborhoods like ours to flourish. As we share the gospel in the context of these relationships, we long to see our city thrive as people come to know Christ.

NAMB Church Planting

Demonstrated Christian character is essential for missionaries and chaplains to gain credibility and build community. A missionary is a person who, in response to God's call and gifting, leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in obedience to the Great Commission. The North American Mission Board supports missionaries serving across the United States, Canada and their territories. Churches are the missionary incubators and sending centers for missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries serve in a variety of settings and face tremendous challenges. But the rewards are tremendous and life-changing. Missionaries have the privilege to represent their church and their Father in sharing the gospel as the primary focus of their activity. If you are interested in pursuing next steps as a potential missionary or chaplain from your church, explore the possibilities at namb.net/send-me.

Pray

Pray for an associate pastor to join us as our opportunities and relationships increase in our neighborhood. Pray for additional partner churches as we expand our outreach initiatives to those who are far from God. Pray for favor in connecting with persons of peace and business owners/managers.

Participate

Pray for favor in our community with the lost and endurance for our core team. Contact us to discuss sending a missions team, interns or laborers for a summer. You can financially partner with us in local outreach initiatives and funding our part-time staff or join our advocate network to become an advocate for us and help us share our story. Contact us at kgibbs@discoveryseattle.org.
Many missionaries build a team to join their ministry in prayer, participation, and provision. These friends, family and churches support missionaries beyond the tithes and offerings given within the church plant.
