About My Ministry

In 1986 a deaf man visited Memorial Baptist Church in Sterling, Michigan. In response, we started a sign language class in 1987 and signed for three years but with no deaf people attending. In 1990 the first deaf people began to attend, and we provided interpreting at services and provided fellowship opportunities.  The ministry has grown to the following:  a monthly deaf fellowship dinner serving around 80 people and worship service ministry to deaf and blind people, weekly deaf Bible study classes and interpreted services, sign language class for deaf Iraqi refugees, a Bible interpretation study class, and several activities for deaf Chaldean refugees.

This contribution is made with the understanding that The North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Inc. has complete control and administration over the use of the donated funds, and gifts received above the specific need will be used in similar areas where the need is greatest.

That communication with the Deaf will be clear as we share Christ. For deaf Iraqi refugees to be open to the gospel. For the refugees to whom we are teaching American Sign Language. For us as we build relationships with Chaldeans and Muslims (deaf and hearing) For those learning sign language will have a heart for the people—not just the language.

Pray for workers to help. The fields are white with harvest but laborers are few.
Many missionaries build a team to join their ministry in prayer, participation, and provision. These friends, family and churches support missionaries beyond the tithes and offerings given within the church plant. Visit for NAMB's policy on providing for church plants.
