About My Family

My wife and I are native Nebraskans who long to see the people of this state freed from the burden of moralism, which weighs so heavily in the land of "The Good Life." I was personally a slave to moralism until my freshman year at Wayne State College (WSC), when I heard the good news of Jesus clearly explained and demonstrated through the love of two peers. Since that time, I have been preparing for this season, and I have now finished both my bachelor's degree in communication at Wayne State and my M.Div. at Denver Seminary. During my undergraduate studies, I married my high school sweetheart, Lauren, who received her B.S. in Political Science from WSC. Then, during seminary, we were blessed with our first child, Juliet, who is 2 years old now. Our family loves baseball, college football, the local church and, most of all, Jesus.

About My Church Plant

Calvary Church Kearney is a member of the Calvary Family of Churches (thecalvary.org), and we exist to make Jesus non-ignorable in Kearney and to the ends of the earth, by glorifying God through making joyful, passionate disciples of Jesus. Nebraska is a state full of "good" people who believe their "goodness" is what matters to God. Our core commitments at Calvary are to "go, show and tell the gospel boldly,"just like those two college students did for me several years ago, so people might behold the beauty of Jesus' work on their behalf and place their trust in Him, rather than in their own "goodness."
We've been called to plant this church in Kearney, Neb., a thriving town of 30,000 and growing with a university of 7,000 students. The University of Nebraska at Kearney has a reputation as a party school, and our hearts break for the students of this university who are drinking from muddy wells of their own creation, rather than drinking from the well of living water. Additionally, the southern half of Kearney desperately needs a new church, as nearly all of the evangelical churches in town have moved to buildings on the north side of town. The southern half of Kearney is much less affluent than the northern half of town, and our hearts long to see the people of this neighborhood learn to treasure Jesus, even in the midst of trouble in this life.

NAMB Church Planting

Demonstrated Christian character is essential for missionaries and chaplains to gain credibility and build community. A missionary is a person who, in response to God's call and gifting, leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in obedience to the Great Commission. The North American Mission Board supports missionaries serving across the United States, Canada and their territories. Churches are the missionary incubators and sending centers for missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries serve in a variety of settings and face tremendous challenges. But the rewards are tremendous and life-changing. Missionaries have the privilege to represent their church and their Father in sharing the gospel as the primary focus of their activity. If you are interested in pursuing next steps as a potential missionary or chaplain from your church, explore the possibilities at namb.net/send-me.
