About My Family
Trey and Lea Ann Turner served 19 years in Texas churches before moving to Wisconsin to plant a church. They believe that ministry in the upper Midwest will be a long-term commitment for them. They gave themselves to a paper mill town on the Wisconsin river and began making friends, then disciples. After eight years in Wisconsin Rapids, a vibrant Southern Baptist church called the Church at Wazeecha has been planted and is meeting the needs of their community. What has been most exciting is seeing those who have grown in faith now contributing into the lives of others.
About My Church Plant
The Church at Wazeecha is named for the nearby lake that bears its name. "Wazeecha" is a Ho Chunk Native American word that means, "Lake of the Land of the Pines." Trey and Lea Ann minister to the people on the east side of Wisconsin Rapids where at least 7,000 families live and play. Church at Wazeecha started in 2013 as a small Bible study and in 2016 they worked to acquire the building in which they were meeting. A small church has the opportunity to care for people, and this one does.
NAMB Church Planting
Demonstrated Christian character is essential for missionaries and chaplains to gain credibility and build community. A missionary is a person who, in response to God's call and gifting, leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in obedience to the Great Commission. The North American Mission Board supports missionaries serving across the United States, Canada and their territories. Churches are the missionary incubators and sending centers for missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries serve in a variety of settings and face tremendous challenges. But the rewards are tremendous and life-changing. Missionaries have the privilege to represent their church and their Father in sharing the gospel as the primary focus of their activity.
