About My Family

I am an Ethiopian missionary in the U.S. My wife, Yirgedu Gebremicael, and I have been married for 19 years. We have two children: Yeabtsega (AB) and Kalkidan (Amy), son and daughter, ages 18 and 16 respectively. I served as a full-time ordained minister and church planter in Ethiopia for 17 years.

God gave me this vision 15 years ago before I came to the United States, and in His time, He made it happen. We are here for His kingdom mission.

About My Church Plant

We, as a family, came from Ethiopia with a vision to plant churches and reach primarily the first generation Ethiopians and then the second generation. We planted Kadesh Christ’s Church in Los Angeles and are living our God-given mission now. Most Ethiopians are religious people, but they don't know the true Way of life, who is Jesus. My mission is to lead them to Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Through this ministry, we have the vision to plant more churches among the Ethiopian diaspora communities in the U.S. and in Ethiopia.

God brought us here to expand His kingdom among the diaspora Ethiopians. More than 150,000 Ethiopians live in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. From this figure, the born-again Christians are not more than 2,500. The mission field is right at our door.

NAMB Church Planting

Demonstrated Christian character is essential for missionaries and chaplains to gain credibility and build community. A missionary is a person who, in response to God's call and gifting, leaves his or her comfort zone and crosses cultural, geographic or other barriers to proclaim the gospel and live out a Christian witness in obedience to the Great Commission. The North American Mission Board supports missionaries serving across the United States, Canada and their territories. Churches are the missionary incubators and sending centers for missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries serve in a variety of settings and face tremendous challenges. But the rewards are tremendous and life-changing. Missionaries have the privilege to represent their church and their Father in sharing the gospel as the primary focus of their activity. If you are interested in pursuing next steps as a potential missionary or chaplain from your church, explore the possibilities at namb.net/send-me.

Please pray for a facility in which to worship that has rooms to teach the new members, an office for counseling and weekday use, too. We are planning to move our service from Sunday afternoon to the Sunday morning, but the rent increases by $900/month. Pray for provision. We need to engage with the Ethiopian community according to their need to start a relationship. Pray for open doors.

Send a missions team to the Ethiopian community in Los Angeles. Help us by organizing a children's ministry to serve the second-generation, English-speaking Ethiopians. Partner with our ministry. Help us engage our community.
Many missionaries build a team to join their ministry in prayer, participation, and provision. These friends, family and churches support missionaries beyond the tithes and offerings given within the church plant. Visit sendnetwork.com/PlanterFunding for NAMB's policy on providing for church plants.
