About My Family

In May, I turned 59 years of age. I have been married to Lydia for 34 years. We have two grown sons (with jobs!) and a 15-year-old daughter whom we adopted from China 14 years ago. We homeschooled our children and are gratified that they have been provided a strong foundation.

My wife is a 5-year, triple-negative breast cancer survivor, and I battle a vascular neuropathy that has necessitated having braces on both feet. God has been very gracious to us and has blessed us in the middle of trying times.

Our oldest son, Connor, is married to Madison, and we welcomed our first grandbaby in February. I am looking forward to officiating at our youngest son's (Cole) wedding to Sabrina this summer. Our youngest, Anna Claire, has just completed her freshman year in high school at the Headrick Academy.

About My Ministry

I am an SBC endorsed hospital chaplain. Later this summer, I will complete my 11th year as staff chaplain at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. I work with two Catholic priests to form a three-member pastoral care team. Ministering to patients, their families and hospital staff is the core of each day.

Bivocationally, I am serving as interim pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Monroe, La., where I have been on staff for eight years. Lydia plays the keyboard in worship and is an integral ministry partner both at church and many times at the hospital.

SBC Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a vital frontline ministry and extension of the local church. Chaplains reach the lost among the thousands of men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, correctional facilities, healthcare settings, public safety, disaster relief sites, and corporate environments. SBC Chaplains care for the broken, offer hope to the hopeless, and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ in hard-to-reach places.
The qualifications expected of a Southern Baptist applying for endorsement as a chaplain or counselor are established by the using agency and the Chaplains Commission, SBC. These qualification requirements vary according to the type of chaplaincy or counseling ministry involved but all are expected to meet a high level of ministerial competence.

Pray

Please pray for me as I continue the process of seeking certification through the Board of Chaplaincy Certification, Inc., by the end of the year. Please pray Lydia as she deals with lymphedema in her right arm and engages in a constant battle with insomnia. We praise God for the privilege to rock our grandbaby together!
