About My Family

My wife, Sandie, and I have been happily married for 48 years. We have been blessed with four grown children and nine grandchildren. We live in Dallas, Texas, and are both graduates of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

We spent more than 30 years in ministry in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Dallas. I served in Federal Service with the U.S. Navy as a SEAL for eight years.

After 12 years of selling airplanes with Raytheon, I felt God’s call to enter full-time service. After earning a master’s degree in biblical studies from Moody, we served in Latin America until we were called back to the home offices in Dallas. We have been members of First Baptist Dallas for 20 years. It is both a privilege and a calling to serve our Lord.

About My Ministry

As SBC-endorsed chaplain for the Dallas Police Department and Chief of Chaplains for the Texas State Guard, I am the Chief of Chaplains for the State of Texas covering four brigades, including serving alongside the National Guard on the border of Texas. Many of our chaplains are currently deployed at the border. Their responsibilities extend to both soldiers and their families, focusing on the morals, morale and general welfare of each service member. Duties include counseling, leading devotionals, holding religious services, and acting as the “eyes and ears” of their commanders.

My team and I address issues such as PTSD and suicidal ideation among soldiers, making themselves available 24/7 when needed. Monthly drills provide opportunities to integrate with soldiers and build relationships for further spiritual discussions.

SBC Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a vital frontline ministry and extension of the local church. Chaplains reach the lost among the thousands of men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, correctional facilities, healthcare settings, public safety, disaster relief sites, and corporate environments. SBC Chaplains care for the broken, offer hope to the hopeless, and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ in hard-to-reach places.
The qualifications expected of a Southern Baptist applying for endorsement as a chaplain or counselor are established by their institution and the Chaplains Commission, SBC. These qualification requirements vary according to the type of chaplaincy or counseling ministry involved but all are expected to meet a high level of ministerial competence.

Pray

Please pray as I balance family, full-time employment, the Dallas Police Department and the Texas State Guard. Please pray for Sandie, as she has had Parkinson’s for more than 16 years. Each day is a challenge, but she never complains. Please pray for wisdom with godly counsel as I take on the new role of Chief of Chaplains for the Texas State Guard.
