About My Family

I am humbled to be a church planter/pastor. My wife and I are originally from Memphis, Tenn. After serving as a student pastor for 13 years, we moved to the West and planted/replanted churches in Colorado and New Mexico. I also serve full-time as a hospice chaplain.

We began the work of planting in Sheridan in 2019. Cherie is the lead ministry assistant for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention church planting team. She also serves as the church planting wives care team leader for Send Arkansas. We love church planting, pastors’ families, Memphis Tiger basketball and Alabama football. Roll Tide! Go Tigers Go!

We have three daughters. Hannah, our oldest, serves as TrueHope Church’s worship and communications director. Joy serves as an assistant for the Arkansas Baptist Foundation, and Rachel owns her own business in Little Rock.

About My Church Plant

TrueHope Church was launched with the underserved in mind. Our tagline is “Where everyone matters.” We truly want that to be an authentic statement.

God was gracious in allowing one church to close in order for TrueHope to have a campus from the beginning in the middle of a needy community and neighborhood. Providing the gospel, meals, groceries, medicines and clothing is a regular part of the rhythm of this new church. More than 75% of our neighborhood is underserved/unchurched, and Sheridan is one of the fastest growing locations in our state. The local schools are all within 1/4 mile of our church campus.

We are blessed to have Pastor John McCallum and First Baptist, Hot Springs as our Sending Church.

NAMB Church Planting

Millions in North America are in desperate need of hope. Ultimately, the only hope that’s going to last - in this life and the next - is the hope of the gospel. North American missionaries build relationships and share this hope in their communities and beyond.

Pray

Pray for boldness to share the gospel and open hearts among the people to whom TrueHope Church speaks. Pray that through this ministry, more people would come to saving faith and live on mission. Pray for stamina and longevity for ministry amidst attacks from the enemy. Pray 20 people will be saved and baptized in 2023. Pray God will bring someone to reach the hundreds of students and children who live in the neighborhood. Pray for Cherie and me as we disciple the core and that God will raise up leaders from within the group. Pray for Cherie and me as we build relationships with our neighbors and for God to open doors for gospel sharing.

Participate

Build relationships with the our family and TrueHope Church. Partner in prayer and even come and prayerwalk Sheridan and the schools. Share information with your pastor and church to potentially partner. Consider moving to the Sheridan area to be part of TrueHope. Come help with construction projects, such as painting and small carpentry. Send notes of encouragement. Learn birthdays and anniversaries, so you can send gifts and cards.
Learn the ministry strategy and context, so you can provide relevant resources. Support a missionary financially.
