About My Family

I have been married to Brandeis (Brandi) Fennell for 31 years. Brandi is our nurse practitioner for Amedisys Hospice. I have retired from the South Carolina Army National Guard after 23 years of service. I had my endorsement transferred to healthcare chaplaincy.

We have three sons. J.J. Fennell (Emily) is prosecuting attorney for the city of Lynchburg, Va. Brandon Fennell (Maggie) is a South Carolina Highway Patrol. Luke Fennell, fourth year medical student on an Air Force scholarship. We have two grandsons, Daniel is 7 and Tommy is 14 months.

About My Ministry

I’m an SBC-endorsed hospice chaplain employed by Amedisys Hospice in Florence, S.C. I go into homes/facilities to care for the spiritual needs of terminally ill patients. I pray and look for opportunities to share the gospel with terminally ill patients, family members, as well as facility staff, and any person I encounter as the opportunity arises. I share this calling with my wife, Brandi, with whom I work, as well as our medical director, director and other staff members. My role as a hospice chaplain has established relationships within all the communities we serve, including local pastors, funeral home representatives and other chaplains. Through these relationships, I have preached and continue to preach at many local Southern Baptist churches and Protestant churches within our communities.

SBC Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a vital frontline ministry and extension of the local church. Chaplains reach the lost among the thousands of men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, correctional facilities, healthcare settings, public safety, disaster relief sites, and corporate environments. SBC Chaplains care for the broken, offer hope to the hopeless, and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ in hard-to-reach places.
The qualifications expected of a Southern Baptist applying for endorsement as a chaplain or counselor are established by their institution and the Chaplains Commission, SBC. These qualification requirements vary according to the type of chaplaincy or counseling ministry involved but all are expected to meet a high level of ministerial competence.

Pray

Pray I will continually be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s calling in my life. Pray I will always have a tender heart toward the lost, the sick and dying, my family. Pray I always preach truth. Pray Brandi, my wife, will continue to put up with me and support me like she has done for so many years. Pray the patients, staff members and everyone else we encounter see a noticeable difference in who we are (as compared to the world) that would be inspiring to promote a conversation about the gospel and why we are different from the world.
