About My Family

Every day we are trying to learn better how to love God and one another and to glorify Christ in all we say and do. We’re greatly blessed by the Lord and are eager to see what lies ahead. Larry was born in Oklahoma City and grew up in Norman until graduating with a business finance degree from the University of Oklahoma. After graduating, he returned to Norman to work on staff of the Baptist Student Center following some time volunteering to help with collegiate ministry in Miami, Fla., and time at Southwestern Seminary. He has planted a collegiate ministry at the University of Iowa and has been leader of Christian Challenge at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College for more than 30 years.
He and JoAnn met after both had graduated from college and were working with the college ministry of the Baptist Student Center in Norman. They were married in 1975 and have two grown children. JoAnn has enjoyed using her degree in speech and hearing science to help many international students improve their English pronunciation and gets to share Christ with many of them through those opportunities.
Our daughter, Vickie, is married and she and her husband, Charlie, are working at Michigan State while Vickie completes a dual PhD. Steve, our son, has his law degree and is living in Los Angeles working on developing both a music and a legal career. We are still waiting for the joy of grandchildren but are meantime thriving on the experiences of our grand dog and grand cat!

About My Ministry

Despite some church background in both of our lives, JoAnn and I actually became Christians while in college. The key thing that happened in our lives after becoming believers was the follow up we received from the staff of the collegiate ministry in which we were involved. That follow up led us all the way from growing spiritually in our own lives to having a vision for and skill in following up on others who were in our lives and wanted to grow that way, too. As we were looking at what to do upon graduation, the Lord led us to make a commitment to investing in college students for the rest of our lives, hoping to give them the same opportunities to come to know Christ and grow personally while they are in college that we had while we were there.
More than 80,000 students are at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College where we have had the privilege of serving for a number of years. One of the most exciting parts of that ministry has been the many international students we have had the privilege of sharing Christ with as we help them improve their English vocabulary, idiom understanding and pronunciation.
Jesus told His Father, "I have revealed your name to the men You gave me out of the world. They were yours and You gave them to me and they have kept Your Word." Pray that the Lord will give us a support team who will join with us both financially and prayerfully to see that vision lived out in and through our lives.
