About My Family

Hello! We are the Sokolov family—Oleksandr, Olena and our daughter, Yelyzaveta (Liza). In 2022, due to the war in Ukraine, we had to flee our home. By God’s grace, He brought us to Kelowna, B.C., Canada. I graduated from Zaporizhzhia Bible College, had an electronics repair business and served in church preaching, singing, evangelizing and working with youth. Olena, an engineer with two degrees, taught at Sunday school for years, sang in the church choir and took part in children’s evangelism with Samaritan’s Purse.

Liza studied music professionally, accepted Christ at 12, sang solo, as a part of youth worship team and played piano. After arriving to Canada in September 2022, we saw many Ukrainians in Kelowna needing Christ. God called us to help plant a Ukrainian church. Today, we serve by sharing the gospel with Ukrainians in Kelowna.

About My Church Plant

I came to Christ at age 12 and have been part of the church since 1992. I began preaching in 1999 and started studying at Zaporizhzhia Bible College the same year. From 2000, I took part in evangelism—sharing the gospel door-to-door, showing the Jesus Film and serving youth. We visited villages, held services, and I led AWANA clubs and online evangelism through websites and social media.

After marrying in 2005, my wife and I served together, especially in children’s ministry and Samaritan’s Purse outreaches. In 2023, we began gathering Ukrainians in Kelowna, many broken by war, like our family. Through our testimony, we share Christ who rescued us from war’s devastation. Today, we continue this calling—planting the first Ukrainian church in Kelowna.

NAMB Church Planting

Millions living in North America have not been reached with the gospel. But a new church makes change possible in an unreached neighborhood.
Send Network church planters immerse themselves in a community, learning the rhythms and culture as they establish relationships with the lost. A church plant grows out of the evangelism efforts of the planter and his core team.

Pray

Please pray for God’s blessing on the planting of a new Ukrainian church in Kelowna. Pray that the Lord would open the hearts of Ukrainian people to seek Christ and come to church. Pray for me and my family—for wisdom and strength in this ministry. Please also pray for protection over our community from spiritual attacks. We ask for prayer that God would raise up faithful servants—we are in great need. Pray for the healing of broken hearts among Ukrainians who fled the war, lost everything, and many lost loved ones. And please pray for peace in Ukraine.
