About My Family

My name is Lieutenant Truett Byrns. I usually go by Trey. I am originally from western Oklahoma.

My wife, Maria, and I have been married for 12 years. We have two children, Truett IV (7), Meradith (5) and Madelyn (1).

We serve at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Our family likes to hikes, go to the beach and watch movies.

About My Ministry

I am currently the chaplain with the 2D Battalion 8th Marines. Most of my ministry is deck plating, which is walking around and making sure Marines and Sailors are doing well, building relationships, and counseling Marines and Sailors. I counsel and lead out in various chaplain traditions.

Since arriving at the battalion, I have seen many Marines and Sailors struggling in their marriages and in their character. Coming alongside them to strengthen their spirit has become my priority.

SBC Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a vital frontline ministry and extension of the local church. Chaplains reach the lost among the thousands of men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, correctional facilities, healthcare settings, public safety, disaster relief sites and corporate environments. SBC Chaplains care for the broken, offer hope to the hopeless and advance the gospel of Jesus Christ in hard to reach places.
The qualifications expected of a Southern Baptist applying for endorsement as a chaplain are established by the using agency and the Chaplains Commission, SBC. These qualification requirements vary according to the type of chaplaincy involved but all are expected to meet a high level of ministerial competence.

Pray

Pray for boldness to share the gospel and open hearts among the people to whom our family will minister. Pray for people to come to saving faith in Jesus. Pray more people will become missionaries and chaplains to military men and women. Pray for our transition to our new house and as we make new friends.
